The art of the donkey selfie

I grew a beard over the summer so I decided it was time to update my avatar for WordPress. I thought it would be an easy job because all I wanted was a donkey selfie and none of the donkeys had grown beards over the summer, so it should have been straightforward.

Nothing involving a donkey is ever straightforward.  These are just the worst: there were 136 more.

Just Matilde’s ear. Not really enough donkey for a donkey selfie.

Final acceptable donkey selfie with Morris. A bit sad but that’s the best we will get.

How did other people manage?

The clear winner must be Deb Collins Kidwell because she has a donkey the size of a giraffe and managed to get the whole animal in the picture. Runner up prize goes to Liz Barrett for a donkey selfie with a big chicken.

  1. In fact I was trying to get the donkey selfie with Rubí, as she is generally more cooperative unless she is in a bad mood (or when the farrier is visiting to trim hooves), but on this occasion she was more interested in eating my hat. Morris simply turned up and posed neatly for the selfie, but he hasn’t got his tongue hanging out, which would have made it better!

    1. My pleasure! I have since seen a whole bunch more donkey-selfies and I am going to write on this subject again. The donkey-selfie is a particular art form that deserves serious academic attention. Maybe we can persuade a professor of semiotics at a struggling university to take on a postgraduate research assistant and do a full exploration of Camera Asina: The Semiology of the Donkey-selfie in Postmodern Equine Culture.
