Burritos de la Cantera

Matilde stands in her home – here in El Parral – with her magnificent Andalucian ears spanning the Penya Negra quarry behind her. We have said enough about the quarry and the campaign to stop it reopening in these past months.

This blog started 15 years before that nightmare began. In a decade and a half, all I intended here was to share with readers my life with four donkeys. From the birth of the foals in 2011 to the everyday lives of this donkey family – two mothers and their foals –  including their celebrations and their occasional crises (such as Aitana’s collapse and wonderful recovery a few years ago), they have shared their equine lives with you. Including Rubí’s occasional donkey essays…  Rubí Tuesday.

Nothing can take away the rich life we’ve enjoyed and shared with many readers (some regulars and others who have dipped into the blog from time to time) and it would be a shame if this blog was reduced to a mere political battleground against the Leviathan roadbuilding company Pavasal, and its owners the Quesada family – the richest in Spain – who have it in their power to grind the donkeys and me into their tarmac like roadkill, simply because they have the money and power to do what they like.

No, this blog equusasinus.net must remain a place to celebrate the donkeys. A new blog will be created. Meanwhile, here on equusasinus.net we shall return to business as usual, just presenting our “life with donkeys” as it was before the awful Pavasal people came crashing into our lives with not so much as a neighbourly introduction!
